Am I Insane?
This week someone said that I was insane for keeping this whole site going this long. He meant it in a good way though, I think.
Am I insane? I don't know. Five years is a long time to do almost anything, especially something on the internet. This week I was listening to this excellent interview with Nathan Thornburgh, the founder of Roads and Kingdoms. He said: "You have to remain committed to the kind of irrational act of producing journalism for an uncaring world. You have to want to do that so bad, that you will never not be doing that. There’s so many ways to die in this business."
It's so true! And it's so true for any creative pursuit. You do it for some irrational reason. It doesn't make sense, but it makes complete sense. So am I insane? Yes, I'm totally insane and irrational too.
Here's what I liked this week.

PICTURE IT
An amazing new camera I got is the Fuji X100F. It has utterly blown me away. BUT! Before I can really wax on that (I haven't shot with it enough), I wanted to write about another camera that's rekindled my love for shooting film: The humble point and shoot. Chances are if you're over 30, this is was what you thought of when you thought "camera," not your phone.
Bottom line: They're cheap. They're easy to use. And they take damn nice photos too.

DARN RIGHT
If you don't think I'm wearing Darn Tough socks as I write this email, you're darn wrong. My beloved Vermont-based sock company makes, hands-down, the best socks money can buy. Get a hole one? Don't worry, they've got a lifetime warranty. What other sock brand does that?
